The Brussels Language Platform
Where applied linguistics and communication are the framework of a globalized, multilingual and intercultural city
The Brussels Language Platform was set up in 2009 in order to sustain and further develop research at the Applied Linguistics Department of the Erasmushogeschool Brussel. This interdisciplinary platform aims to achieve the following goals:
- acquiring external research funding
- enhancing the quality and quantity of research output and
- embedding research in the Master’s degree programmes.
Under the auspices of the Platform for Languages, the research centres at both the Vrije Universiteit Brussel and the Erasmushogeschool Brussel develop research projects in foreign language acquisition, journalism, translation and interpreting studies and comparative linguistics. Current projects include investigations into phraseology, translation assessment, terminological variation, interpreting competence and discourse analysis.
In the near future efforts will be directed at a closer collaboration in education and training, which will allow more flexibility in the exchange of students.
